The misconception of Education
I have been part of that generation that grew up listening to their parents about what they want them to become. Nurtured in the ideas of becoming a Doctor or an Engineer , I was not even aware of the concept of any third professional field except these two.
This narrow concept has been broadened over the past decade , making people aware of various subjects and fields, which allowed the children to pursue their education in the field they are interested in.
Education, however , meant to bring ethical conducts and one’s knowledge about that particular subject to be enhanced. But by the rotating wheel of time, our society have changed the criteria of being called an educated person.
The intelligence and passion is being measured with the number of degrees and certificates he has attached in his CV. Speaking English in a good American accent has been taken away too seriously by our people , considering it to be the essential part of education. Not to exaggerate but people are that lame when it comes to English language. Imagine your talents and education being judged on how good your English ‘Sounds’…
My aim in this blog is to let people know what Education means. Its neither your social status nor your class. It is a way of life to be lived in a decent manner. It’s getting aware of the Do’s and Don’ts of life and to explore the world because education offers to experience a world that know no boundaries.
It’s not necessary for education to be gained from a well-known institute, as the term refers, education can be anything which teaches you to differ between the wrong and right and helps you to learn things.
I am making it easy to be understood by mentioning a few examples like Telling your child not to abuse anyone is education. Teaching him to respect his elders is education. A good communication is also a sign of education. Not to lie and cheat is also basic education.
On the other hand, educational institutes in our country has improved their quality of education and aims to provide better environment for students to learn and to practice things before entering to their professional phase of life. But there’s always a second side of the coin.
Betterment in environment included less restrictions and more relaxation over the unethical acts in universities etc. For instance, Students find universities a platform for their fashion sense to be admired. As they do not let their limelight moments of saving the appreciative glances slip away. Paying less attention on “what to study” and more on “what to wear” results in poor grades.
The obsession with make overs divert students attention from what they are actually supposed to do in university. For what purpose they have been sent there.
In addition to it, one more thing that is making our education toxic, is developing a sense of unnecessary comparison with others. Everybody is keeping an eye on how far the other person has gone, which is truly a disappointing situation Indeed!
The need of the hour is to educate people to love and trust their own selves and behave accordingly and not rushing in faking the double standards on the name of education.
Making the students aware of what is important and what is not is highly needed , that will enhance their intellectual so that they will be able to set their goals and to accomplish them. And the only thing that can bring this major change in our people of knowing their values and starting their struggle towards a peaceful and meaningful life is getting them “Educated” in real means.
